Bikanerwala for chaat and sweets | Delhi-NCR

What you see - Bikanerwala is an international chain of snacks and sweet shops with various outlets across Delhi. The Naraina branch is situated on a broad busy road, a little off the ring road in Delhi. There is ample parking space with guards watching the parked vehicles. The double storied restaurant has a seating capacity for over 50 people, besides some long tables for standing and eating. You can either eat at the restaurant enjoying its family environment, or get food packed and takeaway.

What you get - Bikanerwala offers a variety of sweets, chaat and fast food to choose from. Originally known for Indian sweets, the chain has now evolved into a well known snacks joint in the area.

There are counters displaying many types of sweets prepared with traditional Indian recipes. The sweets offered at Bikanerwala are famous for the richness of taste and flavor. Most of the sweets are prepared in pure ghee. Must-tries include badam barfi, rasmalai and desi-ghee jalebi. Many kinds of Bengali sweets like sondesh are also available here.

There are counters of mouthwatering chaat and snacks on the other side. The menu is on display above the counters on bright glowing signboards. There is a self service system and after paying at the counter, you can collect your platter from the snacks section. Despite the crowds, the service is quite fast and good.

The chaat menu ranges from the commonly known gol gappa and bhalla papri to aloo tikki. In addition, there are some chaat items that are exclusively available only at the Bikanerwala outlets, such as their lacha tokri.

Our verdict - For all those who miss the flavors of the local chaat wala, this is the place to pamper your taste buds. It is one of the ideal places for heavy evening snacks. The tangy and spicy taste of authentic Indian chaat is definitely going to leave you wanting for more. One of the greatest plus points about the joint is the high level of hygiene maintained here. All the workers wear plastic gloves when serving food, so there is minimal human contact with the edibles. In addition, there are many sweepers at all times, cleaning toilets, areas around the water dispensers and emptying the dustbins at regular intervals. The food is certainly priced little costlier than some other places, but the quality and service are worth the price.
