People Tree offers a range of gifts and accessories that may be used for personal use. The studio-shop offers eco-friendly products that includes T-shirts, photo frame, junk jewelry, stationery and a range of other hand crafted items. There is a bookstore at the back of the store that offers a massive collection of books of all genres. During the festive season of holi, the store also offers eco-friendly natural colors from Ecoexists.
What you see – As a store, People Tree is quite a narrow one. Located across the LIC building in Connaught Place, Delhi, it throws a surprise, however, in terms of what it stocks. A bulletin board on the right side of the entrance gives information on environmental issues and events. Handwritten and printed posters talk about Tibet as well. And beyond all of that, there are rows of shelves and baskets that display eco-friendly products.
What you get – People Tree has a collection of clothes and accessories for men and women. They have different types of hippy T-shirts (Rs. 300 onwards) with attractive motifs and designs. There are skirts, trousers, jackets and sarongs as well that are quite fashionable.
The clothes here are made of pure cotton and have had screen printing for their designs. The prints relate to street art, spiritualism or Sufi poetry. Some of the messages on these garments relate to social causes as well.
Apart from clothes, you can find attractive and unique accessories here that are handmade by women’s groups and street children. You can get bags, caps, scarves, scrunchies, wallets, pencil cases, potlis and more. The proceeds from the sale are used for the welfare of these under-privileged groups.
If you are looking for interesting jewelry then you would find tribal ones in the form of necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets, anklets etc. These are made from glass beads, paper, threads, metal and wood. We even spotted attractive earrings made from quilling or paper filigree craft, priced from Rs. 120 onwards.
People Tree also has a section devoted to stationery and gift items like photo frames, envelopes, diaries, pens, cards etc. At the rear end of the store they have a small book section which has a collection of rare books on earth and environment. This section has a limited collection of documentary films as well that talk about environmental issues like the one on Narmada Dam. A small collection of children’s books and board games is also available here. You can get Snakes and Ladder or Ludo made from papier mache. Other Indian games from Kreeda are also available.
Our verdict - The products at People Tree are made from natural and environment friendly resources. That is why most of the products are handmade instead of machine made. The merchandise sold here is rare and unique and they do not compromise on quality. Parking space is not available therefore you will have to park your car at the Palika underground parking facility.
